With about a month remaining before launch, some of the first professional reviews for The Quantum Mirror have started coming in. I’m incredibly encouraged by the response so far.
Building a Psychological Space Thriller
One thing I wanted to achieve with this novel was a balance between psychological realism and claustrophobic space-thriller tension. The setting is a failing Russian space station trapped in orbit during a violent solar storm. Beneath the external crisis, however, it’s also a story about identity, buried truths, and the fragile narratives people construct in order to survive.
Early Praise from Kirkus and IndieReader
I was especially pleased to see Kirkus Reviews describe the novel as:
“An exciting and thought-provoking thriller.”
The review also called it:
“A character-driven SF thriller with an appeal that will extend to audiences beyond dedicated fans of the genre.”
That last line meant a great deal to me. From the beginning, I never wanted The Quantum Mirror to function purely as a technical or systems-focused science fiction novel. The science and engineering matter, but that was never the real focus of the story. It’s always been about the people aboard the station—and what happens when the psychological foundations they rely on begin to fracture.
IndieReader also recently awarded the book a 5/5 rating, which was another encouraging milestone as launch approaches.
ARC Readers and the Road to Launch
Over the past few weeks, ARC readers have also begun making their way through the novel. Watching early reactions emerge has been both exciting and surreal. After spending so long writing and revising the book in relative isolation, it’s gratifying to finally see it entering the world and finding readers.
